28th Polar Pedition by PAN

I spent the 2004 in Antarctica. I took part in science research by Polish Academy of Science. H.Arctowski base, polish antarctic station is placed on the King George Island (AN-010), South Shetland Archipelago (VP8H). I was responsible for exploatation and maintenance of electronic and computer equipment at the station. I also took care for satellite equipment and made the connections with Poland possible. Up to the end of 2003 I was an operator of short wave station, which secured contact with Poland via Gdynia Radio.

During the stay on the island I was active using my own callsign HF0QF and sometimes - traditional for this localization - HF0POL call. My activity started during the long ship journey in November 2003 and lasted to 20th of November 2004. During the journey I was active as KG2QF/mm.

My equipment was: IC-706 MKII, power amplifier IC-PW1 and five top bands Mosley antenna (which was destroyed almost immediately, due to strong winds) and laptop computer. I was as active as possible, because of business duties on all HF bands.

In January 2004 a crew of "Zjawa 4" yacht visited our station at King George Island. The destination of their voyage was to reach the Antarctic continent and put feet on the Antarctic land. The fates of a yacht are described at www site by Robert KB2PNM. Here you can find the recording of my radio relation, when "Zjawa 4" left the Arctowski base.
